Air Pumps for Inflatable Boats Deliver At Low Pressure

Air pumps for inflatable boats cannot be replaced by bike or car tire pumps. Be aware of this before even attempting to use either of those types on an inflatable boat or kayak. Bike and car tire pumps both deliver high pressure air. An inflatable kayak, on the other hand, needs a large volume of low pressure air. The car and bike tire version can damage the inflatable craft if they are used instead.

The specialized air pump is a very critical inflatable boat accessory. There are many different types of devices available, including hand, foot and automatic. Most air pumps designed specifically for inflatable boats have pressure gauges. Since the majority of crafts that can be inflated require a certain pressure to be achieved, monitoring the gauge will help accomplish that quickly.

A large hand pump is considered standard equipment for the inflatable boat owner. Quick and easy to use, the air pump is generally pretty indestructible. The standard hand operated model also works as a dual action device, inflating with both upwards and downwards motions. A smaller air pump, either hand or foot operated, is a must-have boat accessory while out on the water. This is important in case of emergencies or an overnight maintenance while camping.

It's important to remember that inflatable boats and kayaks have been designed with a great deal of safety in mind. Boats generally have three or four separate air chambers. Even if one does develop leak requiring boating accessories such as the repair kit and a pump, the other two or three will continue to support the craft. Also, because of more durable materials, the leak will be slow and it can take a while before it even becomes noticeable in affecting the buoyancy.

As a precaution for accidents and of course to inflate the boat in the first place, an air pump is an invaluable accessory for these recreational watercraft owners. Most pumps come with detailed instructions on how to allow for different settings on a variety of inflatables requiring different amounts of pressure.
